How can help people to be
engaged in more eco-friendly
lifestyle?
Overview
Ilsang Green (Daily Green) is an eco-friendly social platform that enables everyone to start an environmentally responsible life with others. Designed for individuals who have a sensitivity towards the environment but face challenges in engaging in eco-conscious activities.
In transition to change my carrier, the idea is selected by CMC App Competition, I had opportunity to learn how to do UXUI design first time.

Empathize
To uncover opportunities for eco-friendly design, I began by identifying key questions related to the challenges users face in adopting sustainable behaviors.
By conducting in-depth research informed by data points, I was able to extract valuable insights that revealed the underlying issues and opportunities for improvement.
What do the target users need?
Based on the insights gathered, I defined the target group as members of an environmental community who actively engage in eco-friendly activities with others. To better understand their needs, I conducted a survey within this group, which provided valuable data for creating detailed user personas.
These personas helped refine our design approach and ensure it was aligned with the specific behaviors and motivations of the target audience.
Define
What problem should we solve intensively?
Through the research, I discovered that the main problem is there is not much of medium to help people can be really engaged easily in eco-friendly life, overcoming their initial barrier.
Direction for conceptualization to solve the problems
The main focus of this project was to encourage users to actively participate in and create activities by making engagement more continuous and enjoyable, while also improving the accessibility of information.
This idea further refined the direction toward a community-based app while also providing essential information, including guide content and locations where users could explore and engage in an eco-friendly lifestyle.
I collected valuable data on their profiles, including their motivations, pain points, and behaviors from interview.
These insights played a key role in shaping user personas and refining the design strategy to better align with their needs.
Using this data, I developed a user journey map to identify key needs, which helped shape the direction of the user flow and improve its overall intuitiveness.

Pivoting to a Community-Based App for Sustainable Engagement
Given the constraints of working alone, I relied on field research with environmentally conscious individuals to gather insights on user needs. From these conversations and additional desk research on eco-marketing and habit-building, I initially explored various ideas, including a weather-based app to trigger eco-friendly actions.
However, feedback suggested that this approach lacked long-term sustainability. I pivoted to a community-driven model, where users could engage, share, and develop sustainable habits together, ensuring both operational viability and stronger user engagement.
To bring the ideas to life, I created the Information Architecture and user flow, which helped clarify the structure and user journey within the app.
Brand experience
Visual language
Through the worldplay 'Drawing the Everyday,' I encouraged users to showcase their daily commitment to the environment. In the app, members are called 'Greenies' to create a shared identity that fosters a sense of community and connection.
Prototype
Mainpage
On the main page, users can subscribe to communities aligned with their interests, allowing them to seamlessly explore and engage in eco-friendly activities continuously at their own pace.
Store page
We showcase environmentally-friendly stores to allow users who are initially engaging in eco-friendly activities to discover a broader range of activities.
My account page
UX to encourage motivation
I envisioned rewards with gamification to motivate users to keep doing an environmentally friendly activities as their habit.
This tied in with the product's business model, where users would earn points for their participation, which would be redeemed for discounts on products they wanted to promote in partner stores.
Test
After the app launch, during the demonstration day, my team (consisting of myself and two developers, Front-end, Back-end) gathered valuable feedback from both regular users and business representatives, which helped broaden our perspective on the product.
To collect feedback, we prepared and distributed feedback forms to visitors during the event.
Collected feedbacks
After the demo day, we collected valuable feedback from visitors. Their comments provided insightful ideas and advice, particularly about the business model, helping us improve our product further.
Lesson & Learn
My interest in UX/UI design grew when my idea was selected for the CMC APP Competition. Over several weeks, I participated in weekly feedback sessions with designers, PMs, and POs, which taught me the importance of focusing on user needs to achieve market fit, rather than just UI design.
In preparation for demo day, my team worked with developers to launch the project in about a month, despite the tight timeline and challenges, especially since it was the developers' first real product.
This experience taught me valuable lessons in managing communication with developers. The positive feedback we received during demo day led us to continue collaborating on future updates.
