Overview

Sustainable platform for upward mobility

Located in the remote mountainous region north of Chiang Mai, Thailand, Ava’s House is a shelter for children. Beyond providing shelter and meals, Ava’s House aims to break the cycle of educational deprivation by offering these children opportunities for learning, enabling them to discover and pursue their passions.

As the shelter is in its early stages and faces a shortage of resources, necessitating significant attention and support. Consequently, Ava’s House seeks to raise awareness, connect with people, and establish connections with the world.

Empathize

The Mu, which organized the Mu Chiangmai event, organized participants visit to Ava's House to observe the site and brainstorm how to leverage Ava's House's resources and the Web3 community to create synergy.

Define

We organized the conclusions drawn from the brainstorming session. The shelter should also implement activities aimed at the continuous independence and self-sufficiency of the shelter and the children, with several ideas proposed.
A donation feature for children's education and accommodation was also considered.

The next step is to design the shelter's website so that Ava's House can directly operate the activities generated through brainstorming via the site in the future

BI Design

Ideation

The primary focus of the logo design was to make the brand's name easily recognizable and readable, ensuring that the newly established organization could be clearly identified.

The design aimed to intuitively express the shelter's identity, with the keyword 'home' being prominently visible at first glance. In this context, readability was emphasized not for the content, but for brand recognition

The shelter welcomes children from various countries located in the northern border region of Thailand, making it essential to reflect the essence of a 'community of diversity' in its visual identity.

The project's direction aimed to portray an organization that empowers children to embrace self-reliance actively, rather than offering one-sided aid and support. This identity sought to express independence boldly and naturally.

Design System guide

Generally, the spectrum of audience of Ava’s House is international, but for local usage of the logo, I tried to make Thai version. For me, it’s first time to design in the country where people use language that I can not understand at all. I received assistance from locals to customize and proceed due to the many differences in grammar, form, and culture between Thai and English.

Collaboration

During the six-week period of The Muchiangmai, Ava's house had opportunities for collaborations with other organizations and involvement in events. Other designers participating in these events utilized the newly created Ava's house logo to design promotional materials.

Design

Design point: Coordinate practical issues

The brainstorming session wasn't about what we could do 'right now,' but rather about gathering people involved in Web 3 to brainstorm what we could do in the near future. This was because Ava's House is currently facing significant administrative challenges that are fundamentally hindering progress.

Due to the administrative procedure which takes really long time, Ava’s house is not still officially registered as a foundation. So there is a limitation for doing foundation works, like letting people know about Ava’s house through SNS for NGO’s activity, for example promoting donation.

Web final structure

So instead of launching a lot of feature of NGO site, we were trying to make a MVP website for Ava’s house reflecting actual condition and necessities. Two necessities were emphasized during the meeting : Informing Ava’s house project and observing people’s involvement type that they want to do.

We decided to adopt a more open structure for receiving data through Google Forms rather than structurally segregating the financial donations and various volunteer activities within the webpage

Keep going

Despite operating in challenging conditions, Ava’s house cannot engage in formal NGO activities yet (2023). However, looking ahead, it aims to gradually become self-reliant by seeking network support through its website.

The website keeps being iterated by other volunteers in spontaneous way. if you are interested in visiting website, please go through the button below.
